Our Story - Who We Are

To live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, and joy.

The operation of our retail thrift stores is a fulfillment of a mandated function of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul: to serve the poor. We offer a variety of items, including clothing, furniture, household goods, toys, electronics, and accessories. Necessary items are provided free to those in need who have been assessed and visited by one of our volunteers from a local church. Revenue from the sale of excess donations that are available at our stores is used to pay the expenses to keep the business operations open.

Initially, providing clothing and other items was handled by local Vincentians with the assistance of the local SSVP and the Provincial Council. These projects led to the creation of thrift stores at various locations.

Today the thrift stores operate at two locations in London: 585 York St. since 1972 and 1005 Elias St., which opened in 1996. 

Please note: we have changed our operating hours for Elias Street and we are now closed on Sundays and Mondays. Please check our hours for details.

The SSVP London Thrift Store is a social enterprise dedicated to serving our community with compassion and dignity. Every item purchased or donated helps fund programs that support individuals and families facing poverty, homelessness, and crisis situations.

Our store is operated by a passionate team of staff and volunteers, with guidance from our Thrift Store Committee. We aim to create a welcoming space where people can shop affordably, contribute sustainably, and feel connected to a larger mission of hope.

Our Awards

St. Vincent De Paul Store in London, Ontario has earned outstanding recognition at the 2025 Community Votes London awards, solidifying its reputation as a leading thrift store in the region. The store was named Gold Winner for both furniture and second hand clothing and consignment, highlighting its wide selection of affordable, high-quality items. New Mattresses

We have some of the best prices in the city for new mattresses and box springs. Visit us at either store location for details. Prices for single, double, queen, or king sets range from $190 to $615 each (+HST). Choose from three different types of mattresses.

Box Spring Leg Instructions

Legs are included when you purchase a box spring. We also have bed bug covers available for purchase.

Here, you’ll find affordable furniture, clothing, small household goods, vintage items, décor and brand-new affordable mattresses & box springs. It’s the ideal place to browse for quick finds and unexpected treasures. Every purchase supports programs that assist those in need in our local community.

Voucher Program
Essential items, at no cost, when you need them.

SSVP London bears witness to our Christian faith through the solicitude and care of those who lack adequate clothing and furniture. We act as an intermediary between people who wish to donate and those in need. We provide food, furniture, and clothing assistance to those in need in our community. If you are in need of food, furniture, or clothing vouchers, please contact the local Catholic Church that services your area. View the map below.

Please leave a voicemail with a contact number, and a volunteer will return your call. Two of our volunteers will set up a time to visit you to review your needs and provide you with a voucher. If you receive a phone call from an “Unknown Number,” please answer the call. After you receive your voucher from the volunteer, please call the 585 York St. store at (519)438-7071 to set up an appointment at the store. Our wonderful store volunteers will help fill your needs.
